A Shared Love of Knowledge

Gordon Ingalls had a saying: “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” It was a motto he lived by, as a lifelong learner and in his long, successful career, having been a professor of philosophy and Dean at the College of New Caledonia as well as a School District Trustee in Prince George before retirement.

Gordon and his wife, Katherine Hough, an Anglican priest and lawyer, have been longtime supporters of Knowledge Network, delighting in the wide range of programming and the endless opportunities to not only expand their knowledge, but to relive their experiences in other parts of the world through shows such as Coast New Zealand. “We enjoyed travelling and when we weren’t we travelled with Knowledge,” says Katherine. When ill health robbed Gordon of so much, he took great joy in watching the news and his beloved Knowledge Network, with murder mysteries like A Touch of Frost, Lewis and George Gently being among his favourites, along with documentaries.

When Gordon passed away in November 2020, he left a gift for the Knowledge Endowment in his will, which Katherine chose to match with a Gift in Memory. While Gordon didn’t get a chance to see some of the new programs that Knowledge has been involved in, like Search and Rescue: North Shore, he was interested in providing funding for innovative filmmakers and documentaries. Katherine explains that supporting the Endowment is like building up a savings account. “It means that Knowledge has the funds to keep doing what they’re doing, well into the future.”
