Winston Churchill’s War

Before leading Britain through the war, Churchill had charged with the British cavalry at Omdurman, been captured as a correspondent in the Anglo-Boer War, and served on the Western Front.

Churchill is remembered for his speeches, in and out of Parliament, rebroadcast over the radio. His words were more than defiant rhetoric - when he said that he would go on until victory, he meant it.

Britain and its empire are joined in the war by a powerful ally. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and the German declaration of war, the United States has joined the fight.

As the Soviet Union and United States grow into the most significant actors in the war, Churchill and Britain's influence shrinks.
