Gordon Loverin Joins Knowledge as Documentary Producer
Vancouver, BC (March 2, 2022) - Knowledge Network is pleased to welcome Indigenous filmmaker Gordon Loverin to B.C.’s public broadcaster as Producer, Original Documentaries.
Gordon Loverin is an experienced storyteller from the Tlingit and Tahltan Nations in northwestern British Columbia. He directed Beyond Human Power, recently broadcast on Knowledge, about new generations of Indigenous dancers connecting with their power through performance. He co-created the television series Kanata, and wrote, produced, and directed the documentary Es Kime Ani for U.S. streaming service NativeFlix.com. Gordon has a broad range of production experience having worked with a number of Canadian broadcasters in news reporting and story production. As a long-time Knowledge viewer, he recognizes the importance of a public broadcaster that opens its doors to new stories and challenging points of view.
"Families from all over the world have made this province their home. They have added their unique cultural lens beside the Indigenous peoples that have been here before contact” says Gordon Loverin. “It's an honour to join Knowledge to meet those diverse voices and how they address the world around them through their documentary proposals. I am honoured and humbled to have been chosen by Knowledge to help develop Indigenous and other new potential productions that will reflect the cultural mosaic we call British Columbia."
Knowledge Network is strengthening its commitment to reflect British Columbia’s diversity through a multi-year initiative that will commission independent arts, culture, history and social issues documentaries from B.C.’s Indigenous and racialized-owned production companies.
“We are thrilled that Gordon, a long-time fan of the network, is joining the programming team at Knowledge and bringing his wealth of talent and experience to support the creation of original, B.C. documentaries” says Rudy Buttignol, President and CEO of Knowledge Network Corporation. “Increasing opportunities for Indigenous and racialized production companies is a priority for Knowledge. We look forward to Gordon expanding our relationships with B.C. filmmakers and helping them tell meaningful stories that resonate with audiences on our television and streaming services across British Columbia and Canada.”
Gordon Loverin starts at Knowledge Network April 1, 2022.
