Ruth Hiddleston

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” – Pericles

A Thoughtful Legacy

There is no greater gift than a legacy of love and caring. Born in Penticton in 1933, Ruth Hiddleston was the eleventh of eleven children, and the importance of family remained with her. Settling in West Vancouver with the love of her life, Mitch Hiddleston, whom she met at the Jericho Tennis Club, Ruth was a wonderful mother to her sons Blair and Craig and took great pride in her two grandchildren, Reese and Leyton. A high school teacher for many years, she had a positive impact on the young people who came through her classroom.

Ruth was an avid golfer and bridge player, and when not consumed with one of these activities, she could often be found reading or working on a crossword puzzle. Knowledge Network was another of her simple pleasures. Watching it with Mitch, who passed away in 2020, was a comfortable evening routine that they both looked forward to. Neither of them liked the programs available on commercial networks; instead, they gravitated to the thoughtful, intelligent programming offered by Knowledge. They were longtime Knowledge

Partners because they appreciated the network and wanted to help ensure it continued. For these same reasons, Ruth chose to leave a bequest to Knowledge in her will.

We’re honoured and thankful to Ruth for her generous donation. It will be carefully stewarded in our Endowment Fund, where it will help us bring British Columbians trusted, commercial-free content for generations to come.
